Ballast Question?

I recently bought a used ballast and MH for my frag tank. It was working fine for 2 weeks and now the light tried to fire for about 2 seconds then goes off. Does this sound like the ballast took a crap?

Do you have an old bulb you can test? The will rule out the bulb anyway. If it is an older magnetic ballast it could be the capactior going bad. The is fairly common.

This happened to me as well. I bought two old used ballasts from someone and bought brand new 10k ushio bulbs... One bulb fired up every time and one fired and then went right off. I found that by grabbing the bulb with your hand as if you were going to screw it in or out made if fire up for good. This went on for about a month and then stopped firing after i touched it. So i went out and bought another brand new bulb and WHOALA!!! problem solved. 2 Months later and them old ballasts are doing just fine.
