The 125 took a trip into the nether regions yesterday. The switch on the chiller was in the On position, but appears to have a loose connection or something. It flickered off at some point in the day. I checked the tank at around 8:00 PM because I could almost hear in the living room (i.e., the chiller wasn't on-the skimmer pump, double Sedra 9000's behind the couch, and several maxi jet mods make a lot of noise;)). The temp was 89. I shoved some cardboard in the switch to keep it in the 'just so right' position and it started bringing the water down. By 3:00 AM it was down to 80. Oddly, nothing looks any worse for the wear. It has been held below 80 today. Everything was and still is showing polyp extension. is this the sweet smell of luck coming my way, or has the wind just breifly changed directions;)? Toalk amongst styaselves.

Gary:

Was it the relay that failed? I've found that the contacts fail in time due to the relay opening under the compressor load which generates a spark and erodes the relay contacts. It may need replacement, about $10 for a new relay.

Gary please dont jinx the luck already! Really though can your luck get any worse? It can only get better. I told you of my fish experiene of late. I think my lone royal gramma may have a tank all to himself for abit. Thanks again for the frags. I had the wife pick them up from me at work and throw the bags into my sump. Few minutes later I got the call I was expecting.. "Chris, how much did you pay for this little stick thing?" I just got home and mounted them. The digitata polyps are already showing. :)
Very happy that your chiller episode is working out ok. The corals must not have been at that high temp for long. Did you kiss your rabbit fish a farewell?

Dave,

It seems to be in the contacts on the on/off switch. I figure that switch ought to be a pretty cheap fix. I've been able to get it tricked on by holdig the switch in just the right place. I had another problem with the controller in that it was not coming on when it was set for 26C. The display would read 26.8, but the chiller wasn't coming on. I turned it down to 25C and it has been working well for over a month. Keeps me on my toes. After goign through some of the replacement items (fan and capacitor, etc.), it amazes me that these things sell for so much. It wouldn't be pretty, but you could build your own for half the cost of a manufactured unit. I may try that on my next one. More projects;). Gotta keep busy...

What make is your chiller? I am thinking about getting a 1/5 HP JBJ chiller. Hope I don't end up with a chiller that requires a lot of maintenance.

One more question if you don't mind. Do I have to use a pump to circulate water through a chiller? Can I divert one of the drain lines to a chiller (I have two in my 120 AGA tank) ?

Tomoko

Mine is an Aqua Medic 1/2 hp. I don't know if you'd get the flow rate needed for most with a drain line feeding it, but could be wrong. I think that hydraulically, you'd lose alot of flow by it having to go through the twists and turns in the chiller housing, but could be wrong. Most don't require a whole lot of flow, though (200-600 gph or so)
