Banded Trochus Snails...

Does anyone have any experience with these? I've heard they're great, and can even reproduce in captivity. But I also have read many different size estimates. Some say one inch, some say as big or bigger than a turbo! All information is appreciated.

There are a bunch of different species that have red bands. The ones that show up for sale as Banded Trochus are usually either T. radiatus, T. maculatus, or T. ochroleucus. A normal adult is about 1.5 inches across for all three of these. T. niloticus gets a lot bigger, even though they may also be called "Banded Trochus," with an average adult being about 4 inches across. All of them are good algae eaters.

Cheers,

Don

Same thing on "Black Foot." There are a couple of different species being called that. It's most likely Trochus maculatus, though.

So would you recommend this species over some of the other species? I mainly like them because they don't fall over, and don't get as big as turbos. But do they have any problems?
