Banggai Behaviour

Hi all,

I have a 30g tank and recently obtained a pair of Banggai's. They had been a pair for a while at the LFS. All was perfect for the 1st week or so, but over the last 2 days the male has been very aggressive towards the female. She pretty much is relegated to swimming in a corner near the surface of water. She looks healthy and all tank parameters are fine (ammonia/nitrite 0, nitrate 5, ph8.3, temp 79, salinity 1.023). The only other fish in there is a yellow watchman goby.

My question is this: is this normal mating behaviour between a pair of Banggai's? I was reading that to juveniles, they are not aggressive. Is it possible that the supposed female (smaller one) was simply a juvenile male that now is being shunned by the larger male?

Thanks for any insight into this as I am trying to decide if I need to remove the smaller Banggai.
