Hello evryone. I noticed that on some of the other theads people have a hard time getting thier Banggai cardinals to eat a variety of foods, so I would like to let you in on something that has worked for me. Every cardinal I have received from the wild has enjoyed this food, and I feel it is a good addition to thier over all diet. It also is a good way to give them medication for internal parasites. I still give them live brine shrimp and also frozen brine shrimp also, but they seem to love this stuff!!!
I get a big bag of raw shrimp and de-shell it all. I then put it through the food processor and put it in a bowl. Next, I get a big hand full of some good quality flake food and put it in the bowl. I some times use some raw fish and put it through the food processor and it goes in the bowl. You might thaw out some brine shrimp cubes or some cyclops and add it to the bowl also. If you use medication, such as Pipzine for de-worming, empty the contents of the number of capsuls needed for the weight of the batch of food you have mixed. You can also add some vitamines if you want. I mix this up very well with my bare hands untill I am sure it is evenly mixed. I use a spoon and put about 3 scoops in a sandwich bag. I lay it flat on my table, and smooth it out until I have a nice uniform slab of food. close the sandwich bag and move on to the next one. When I am done, I stack them all on top of one another and put them in the freezer. I have tried mixing in a little sea weed, but they just spit that out. I guess they are not much on the veggies. I do not use any geletin to bind the food because the shrimp does a good job at that. When I feed them I make sure to break off food big enough to fit in thier mouths. These guys will swim around with this food in thier mouths some what like african cichlids do until they have swallowed it all. It almost looks like they are holding. Some times they even try to steel food out of each others mouths. I do not know if this will help any of you guys, but it works for me, and my fish have nice big guts. Any way, it is something some of you guys may want to give a try. This may be a good way to bulk the males up between spawns!
