not as of this mourning..he is getting alot more active and i am pretty sure it will be tonight..i had BBS hatch on 1-31-09 if they do come tonight do you think the BBS will be to large for them??i have had BBS hatch every day since so i figure they will have plenty of sizes to choose from
The first time that mine had his he held until day 28 and then finally spit...the all were kept alive for 2 weeks on straight bbs. then I started to switch them over to frozen cyclopeez...this whole time the breeder net was cleaned every 2 days...no losses...
Then I switched competely to cyclopeze and they mostly all died off over the next 2 weeks...Not sure if they didn't take to the frozen food or what..I thought the bbs would have been much less nutritious. There is only one left alive from this batch and it is going strong just over 2 months old
The next batch I tried only Cyclopeez. All died within a week.
My advice is to stick with bbs as long as you can. Feed a ready batch in small amounts throughout each day, but a new batch every day. If they are older than 48 hours then they loose all nutritional value...
I think for my next attempt I will try to add vitamins before feeding the bbs so that they are much more nutritional and I can possibly keep them alive longer. Just wanted to share with you my experience as it is new for me as well and so far this is what I've tried.
They haven't bred a 3rd batch yet... Not sure why but I am feeding like crazy.
thanks for the reply and advise i am vitamin soaking the BBS and he seems to be ready to spit any second but who knows. i have fed all other batches of BBS to my reef/fish and have seen alot of growth from alot of things including my clowns and duncans my nem crab is thanking me as well...
ok he started holding in the Dec 12th today i transfered him into a 2.5gal(he never left water) in the 2.5 he spit out 4 to 5 eggs that i could make out the eyes and one that looked like a tad pole eating the sack i have an air pump in there with a stone and i know he still has some in his mouth...shouldnt they be further along than they are??? and what should i do now???
look i now have 10-20 little guys still eating their eating the egg it self they are not fully developed and i need to know what to do to keep them alive untill they are free swimming
Hey,
Im in the same boat. My male spit out the babies too soon I think because the water temp went down one night when the heater was accidently unplugged. Search the internet for an egg tumbler and rig up one of your own to keep the eggs and juveniles moving. I have been successfull in keeping some of them alive and they are absorbing their yolk pretty quickly. Once it is absorbed they will start feeding from what I understand.
If you have the bbs hatchery where you put the 2L bottle on it you might be able to keep the eggs in that with a slow flow of bubbles to keep them Tumbling and then weight until they hatch. This way they are aerated and they are still in their original water. Not sure if anyone has tried this. but it is something that I thought about doing should it happen to me.
thanks for the help guys but they all died on the 11th and then the poppa died as well later that night..and right now i have a female slam packed with eggs and no male in sight to deposite them in so i dont know what to do...and i guess in all the confusion i gave you all the wrong info also, he started holding on Jan 12th not Dec..sorry about that
