BAP Program

I'm lazy and don't have time to read follow those links. Can you some up what the program is all about in a couple of paragraphs?

(I apologize - I am a bit busy working on the COMAS website, etc)

Looks like class 13 could be more specifically detailed and expanded on instead of the broad sweep of all marine fish and invertebrates. This could be graded with reguards of difficulty for an appropriate distribution of points (mouthbrooders-easier, leafy seadragons-very difficult).

Also a big hit with this club would be a coral class, which would be a huge selection in itself.

And a personal side note would be a jellies class!! mucho, mucho points!:D

2cts.

I have commented so many times that the marine side of it is so lacking. Tis why I am gaining experience there.

However to get the Grand Master Breeder Award you eventually have to breed a marine fish.

If a marine club wanted to expand upon it and create a marine BAP that would be fine.

OK here goes;

There are 16 Catagories or Classes, this is mainly FW Based;

Class 1 - Livebearers 6 species
Class 2 - Anabantoids 5 species
Class 3 - Barbs 5 species
Class 4 - Rainbowfish 5 species
Class 5 - Rasboras and Minnows 3 rasboras, 3 minnows
Class 6 - Charicins 5 species
Class 7 - Old World Cichlids 6 species 3 substrate 3 mouthbrooder
Class 8 - New World Cichlids 6 species
Class 9 - Mop Spawning Killifish 6 species
Class 10 - Soil Spawning Killifish 3 species
Class 11 - Catfish 4 species
Class 12 - Sharks, Eels and Loaches 1 species
Class 13 - Marine Fish 1 species
Class 14 - All Other Fish 2 species
Class 15 - Native US Fishes 3 species 1 livebearer 2 egglayers
Class 16 - Ornamental FW and SW Invertebrats 4 species

Now that that is out of the way you must fill out a breeding report and submit 6 young as proof that you sucessfully bred the species in question.

For each species that is turned in you get a certificate and for each class you complete you get a plaque. I have recieved 3 plaques so far and will have another 4 by years end if not sooner. You also have catagories of Breeder starting at
1 star 100 points and 1 completed class
2 star 200 points and 2 completed classes
3 star 300 points and 3 completed classes
4 star 400 points and 7 completed classes
Master Breeder 600 points and 10 completed classes
Grand Master Breeder - Completion of all classes

There are also a number of 20 point species requirements and 40 point species requirements. There are also specialist titles in each class. I have attained Advanced Breeder in Anabantoids and Livebearers.

Points are based upon committee review of how hard something is to breed and each class has targets that are worth 40 pts.

Point structures
5 points - Easy,
10 points - Moderate
15 points - Moderate
20 points - Difficult
40 points - Way Difficult

All marine fish are listed as 40 point fish. I know this is truely not the case but we have never had marine people sit down and compare the levels to determine where the difficulty factors lay. I certainly would not make any marine fish less then 20 points. There are no marine fish like SW guppies (yes I know you can make guppies SW but they are not marine fish).

Is this what you were looking for?

I have to admit that the BAP has inspired me a lot. I'm thinking of doing something similar for the frag program to honor those that have worked so hard on receiving, growing, and giving. More on that in a later thread. Gotta talk to the officers first.

You might want to talk to ..................

Great Grand Master Kevin.............

He bred marine fish and a human baby all in the same month!

That is a great idea, Travis. I have some ideas, if you need are interested. Start that thread up! :)

Like the Joint Meeting, some initial plans are going to need to be made before I post a large thread.

Here is where I can give valued input but only on the systematics not the actual point values. That is where you guys come in.

OK here is the class 16B as it stands now.

There is a lot of work that needs to be done here.

Class 16B: Ornamental Saltwater Invertebrates (4 species)
• 5 points: Bristleworms, Aiptasia species anemones, and All other highly opportunistic species.
• 10 points: Tubeworms and mushroom anemones.
• 15 points: All hermaphrodidic shrimp with direct development. All other anemones.
• 20 points: All crabs, lobsters, and other crustaceans not listed elsewhere.
• Target: None.

Now for the $50 question;

What is considered the easiest FW fish to breed?

Hint: Its not a guppy or livebearer.

They are worth points if you have to come up with 6 of them. So far they only come 1 at a time and I tend to kill them accidently. I even took one out to care for it and I guess I killed it with kindness but I loved watching it eat.
