Bare Bottom CUC

Hey guys, I'm cycling a bare bottom 40gal Nuvo and was wondering what your preference for CUC is for those of you with bare bottom tanks.

I only have hermit crabs, I'm still debating if I want snails

From what I've seen, a lot of people use hermits, but you'll need to supply bigger shells as they grow. I also see people with frag tanks using astreas.

A siphon is probably your best bet, being that hermits, snails etc aren't going to make those piles of detritus disappear for you. You could increase the flow and incorporate some sort of a mechanical filtration, but unless your cleaning the media on a regular basis all your really doing is moving the detritus from one spot to another.
