Base stocking

I started a tank with dry rock and boiled sand. The rock wasn't completely dry there is algae but, no microorganisms. The lfs has cheato filled with organisms would a chunk of this be substantial in stocking this tank?

In average good reef conditions Cheato grows like a weed and gets tangled up in the rock so that it's hard to get rid of it. Keep the Cheato in a separate section or a separate tank like a refugium in the sump..

Ditto. The beneficial life in the chaeto will migrate to the display tank.
