basement pump setups?

I am going to be using it for water changes from from truck straight to the tank, so I can avoid lugging jugs and buckets.
I have a mag 18 that I will use as the pump.
the question is for the people (or anyone with experience) with using hosing for large distances 20' to 50'. What size hosing are you using? I called the manufacturers of the mag and they said I would need 1 1/2 to 2" hosing to avoid a lot of back pressure on the pump. what are size hosing are you using? and how long have you been using it?

much appreciated!

Instead of going through all that trouble. Why wouldn't you just invest in a water treatment unit.
As far as the size of hose I would use what ever I had handy.
I would probably just use some 1/2" polyflow tubing because it cheap and ez. Thats what I use if I want to move large amounts of water. I stick 1/2" polyflow tubing on the discharge side of the pump and let it rip.

If the pump has the capacity, in any type round vehicle for moving water, double the diameter you triple the flow, all things being equal, elbows, length ect, ect, hopes that helps.

I use the cheapest pump I can find to move water from one storage tank to the next. Most of the pumps are so cheap it is irrelevant because they are disposable anyway. Meaning it's not worth my time to worry about it or rebuild the pump which is a very rare occurrence I might add.

I use a Mag 12 to pump my water from my basement up to the tank in the dining room. I have about 13-14'' vertical lift and approximately 25' of horizontal. I ran a drain/fill line through the wall/floor from my tank to the basement house sump pump area where I mix my RO water, etc. I used 1" pvc for most of the plumbing and have 3/4" vinyl hose on both ends. I have a hose spicket fitting on the basement hose end I can hook up quickly to my Mag 12 or to a house spicket near the sump when if I have to fill the piping with water to gravity suction the water out of the tank during a water change. It takes about 5 min. to drain 30 gal out and about 10-15 min. to pump back up 30 gal from my reservoir in the basement. I put a gate valve in the basement that comes in handy and prevents a couple trips up and down the stairs. Been using the same pump for more than 5 years with my freshwater setup, just converted it to reef. I haven't had any problems with undo backpressure, etc. with the mag 12. A bigger pump or larger diameter pipe would probably reduce the pumping time but that's what I use and about how long it takes.

good information... thanks.

I decided to use 1 1/2" (bought before most of u all posted) reinforced tubing and man that is a pain in the ***. Its heavy and just holds too much water in it. So I am going to see if I can get some 1" garden hose.
