Any ideas on the identity of this little guy?

I'd say some sort of grouper ?

Well, compared to my lantern, the fish in the pic has more green on the eyes, and is lacking the horizontal patterning of mine. So, either it is a juvenile or another basslet species.

It's obviously in the genus serranus. Which probably means it's either annularis, baldwini, or psittacinus (the 3 most similar on wetwebmedia).

It is not a lantern bass I am pretty sure of that.

Anyone else with any ideas?

Found it!

Serranus Chionaraia. No picture on fish base, but it is in Dr Burgess's Atlas of Marine Aquarium Fish.

Pain in the butt to find, especially since the Atlas is at work and I am at home.

P.S. If thats your pic, then FishBase really does need a pic of it; and that is a really good shot.
