Battery Backup Question

Hey Frank, long time no "see"!

I don't think this is going to help you out all that much. These typically will only keep power supplied for about 15 minutes or so after the electricity goes out. Basically they're used to protect computer equipment in the even of a blackout you'll have some time to power down gracefully (i.e. save your work and shut down).

Lonnie,
Thanks for your reply! I haven't been able to attend any of the last few meetings. I saw your thread on your frag tank. I guess your tank is blossoming. The frag tank looks good. When I finally get my tank running I'll have to contact you for some frags. I should be getting my custom T-5 lighting any day now. HAPPY HOLIDAYS to you and your family.
Frank

Thanks Frank,

Same to you and to yours.

When you're ready c'mon over. You can have the pick of the litter :)

Hi Editour2,
We (AZTBS and I) are using a APS UPS 1800va battery backup for our tank. We are using a Mag 12 for the return pump and with the wattage use we should get about 2+ hours out of the battery. We tested it once for about 40 minutes and still had over 60% battery power left.
IMO anything under the 1200va level is just a waste of time/money and wouldn't provide anything more than maybe about 30 minutes of backup time. We have only had short power outages at the house and very few at that.
Of course, there is always the whole house generator. ;-)

I used them for my pumps and lights so if there was a quick loss of power then it would be no problem and also to protect from electrical inconsisities/surges.

Hey Eric,
thanks for the input. I am looking forward to your presentation in January. I never got the chance to stop by and see the setup in person or pick up the acrylic rod for the live rock, (maybe you can bring it with you to the next meeting/if you still have it). Happy Holidays to you and your family. When is the bambino due?
Frank

Editour2

As always, you or anyone else can stop by any time. Remind me and I will bring the rod to the mtg. The little 1 is due June 24th. Hows the dog?

Eric,
the pup is now 9 months old. He is about 100 pounds and 30" tall, (from the top of the shoulder to the ground). He's going to be a big boy, (they don't mature until around 2 yrs old).
