What do people put on their bb tanks so that if a rock falls, the tank doesn't crack?

It would have to be a very dramatic landslide for that to happen. The drag from the water and typical height and condition that the rocks are in don't give them a whole lot of momentum, surely not enough to break the bottom glass of a tank except in the absolute worst case events (I'm thinking a ~20 lb rock dropping through the height of the tank without hitting other rocks on the way down). And if you're balancing rocks in a fashion that could fall like that, you've probably other things to consider than just broken glass (though that is the worst failure), such as damaged coral, injured fish, etc, and should probably spend some time better securing the rocks in any case.

Point being, I don't find a rock slide a credible failure scenario in a well built tank. Some smaller tanks with very thin glass, or tanks that are built poorly, may need to protect against this, but otherwise I wouldnt worry about it.

I stack mine pretty carefully to make it stable. but even if a piece tumbles, the water buffers it and I've survived a few oopsies moving rocks. the other day I thought I put a piece through the side of my one tank. holy crap, that was a solid thunk.
