I am moving/upgrading my tank from a 55 to a 72 tomorrow and think I will try a bare bottom with a DSB in the fuge. My question is do I need to put anything between the LR and the bottom of the tank? I would usually just search for the answer but the search it out of use later than usual and I need to get some sleep.

Lots of people like to use starboard (cutting board) between the rock and glass. You can order that here.

And trying propping your rocks up off the starboard with some 3/4" pvc or acrylic feet...1/2" should do. Helps to prevent detritus from accumulating underneath.

I would reccomend not using a DSB fuge. It will have the same effects as a DSB tank...housing detritus storing it there. I thought of this as well when I was first planning my tank but everyone talked me out of it. Bascially the whole idea of a BB is to able to export as much waiste/detritus as possible.
