For all you RKE users out there.. I'm working on a Blackberry app similar to the iPhone app for the RKE.

I'm hoping some of you can offer some suggests on functionality you might like to see. Keep in mind, I'm limited to what data is available on the RSS feed... for now. Scott at DA has mentioned working with myself and the iPhone guy to come up with a 'mobile myReef' application once the RKE version is released.. so at some point there will be more functionality available.

Anywho.. I appreciate any feedback and/or suggestions you guys may have.

I think simply being able to see the RSS stuff in somewhat real time would be awesome!

Scott has hinted at the new functionality that's on its way with a NET module update and I'm suspecting myReef may be at least in development.

Having said that, two things do come to mind.

A lot of apps have a dynamic icon. To have the tank temp, pH, or other RSS parameter and have it green for no alerts or red for alerts would be amazing. That also may be more trouble than its worth. :)

Secondly, I think it would be awesome to have a "refresh rate". If I'm not mistaken, the RSS feed is technically updated every minute. To be able to tell the program how often to pull parameters would be nice.

Thanks SOOOO much for doing this! YOU ROCK!

And mobile myReef would DEFINITELY be the cat's meow! :D

Good ideas, Brandon!

I'm not sure what type of flexibilities I have with the icon on the Blackberry, but I would imagine I could work something out.

Already ahead of ya on the refresh rate thing... I'm also trying to build in some simple reporting, but that may have to wait until 2.0 since it would most likely require that I put up a public facing database for storage. Don't mind doing that, but would like to get an idea of usage stats before I go all out.

Anyone else?

You could do the reporting by logging in and grabbing the data that way, utilizing the PC-net's ability to do this already.

It's more complicated. One thing Trevor does do is log into the unit. I know that is not needed for pulling the RSS feed, but it did make it possible for him to pursue that kind of ability to bring up the RKM0net graphing. that would be cool.

ALso, how about cutome field mapping, where we can change the display name to remove the module and channel ID portions of the header.

Are you referring to the iPhone developer? I don't think his app logins into the NET module since the app never asked for authentication info. All his does is read the RSS when you open the app. It does not run in the background to pull data on its own. I know Chuck does this on ReefNook, so I will explore that possibility too.

Custom naming, eh? I could work that in fairly easily.

Acutally, ireef does ask you for your login info and I have talked to Trevor about this. Maybe a new version out there of it doesn't. :)

Chuck does log in, but he still just pulls the rss feed.

It must be a new, unpublished, version of the iReef then. Right now, the only thing iReef does is display the RSS in a pretty format. No reporting.

Unreleased version..yer reaching..BUT..maybe it was CHuck I talked..but enough yapping about it on here..I will just walk over to your cube :P
