BC29HQI skimmer

Okay folks I could use a little help,,,,very new to the nano world. Downsizing my 75 to a BC29HQI,,, I want to add a protein skimmer. Need to know what skimmer I can use beside the unit that comes with the tank. I really do not want a HOB and at the same time I do not want to do any crazy mods to the back of the tank or lid to make it fit..any suggestions would be a great help....

The one that comes with it works but you have to upgrade the air pump. I'd suggest the aquatic life 115. It's what I use in mine and I get "ok" skimmate.
Some people use the Tunze nano skimmer in the second chamber but then you won't be able to run a fuge. The Tunze skimmer is most likely a better choice if ur not running a fuge.

Thanks Austinchap...I do want to run a fuge also... I guess I should have mentioned that..also do you have the biocube with the halogen set up?..I've done a little research and have seen some skimmers will not fit with the halogen set up. I really don't want to cut or mod the lid in anyway.

Yea I have the 150 HQI. I put the aquatic life skimmer in the first chamber. There's a few YouTube videos on how to install it which worked for me. You also have to do the airline mod which takes less the 30 seconds.

agreed the aquatic life 115 is good and do the airline mod it's super easy to do. it takes a little effort to get it in the first chamber but it does fit. I have that in chamber 1, and media rack and chaeto in chamber 2 and heater/return pump in 3.

Thanks Ryeguyy84.... I plan to do exactly what you have done in your three chambers..but with the 115 in chamber one or any chamber at that, can you but your back cover on and hide the equipment. I like the clean look of the tank with both back covers on....

The cover on the chamber 1 side is up about an inch. I'll snap a pic in a little bit. I just dumped my chaeto because it was dying and wasn't worth the effort. I switched to vinegar dosing.

i have a jbj 28 gal nano and installed a eshopps skimmer works nice no mods check it out at eshopps web site the pump is on the bottom of the skimmer

Hopefully these pics work, the iPhone app isn't the greatest for pics. If you were to look in that gap you can see the level of the skimmer cup. It's pretty convienent.

If you are going with HOB, check out the AquaMaxx HOB-1, it's sick!

Like rye says. After I did the airline mod I dropped mine lower in the water and can now close the tops all the way. I still get a decent skim so I don't think it effected anything. I could be wrong though.

I did the same thing but with my mp10 I sometimes use wave mode so when it was that low I was emptying the cup daily with yellow tinted water. On normal mode what you do would work.
