Be sure to seal the fittings in your overflow!

Cancer Sucks
I learned something tonight during my first big water change. I shut off the return and CL, and it took me a while to put some plumbing together for the pump I'm going to use for water changes.

The sump slowly kept filling up until it was completely full. The culprit? I didn't put teflon tape on the threads inside the overflow. The tank water pushes down on the closed loop outlets, backwards through the CL pump, and into the overflow. With water slowly dripping past the threads on the 2 drains and the 2 returns, it keeps making more room in the overflow, so the tank keeps slowly draining.

Seal ALL the plumbing inside the overflow! I didn't because I thought it's underwater and so what's the big deal if it leaks just a little?

Some of you may laugh at this and say "Duh", but someone who's just setting up thier first reef-ready tank may benefit. (I didn't have situations like this with a HOB overflow)

It's no big deal, I just need to put on some teflon tape before the first big power outage.

Hope this helps someone!
