Bean animal open pipe flow

Bean animal Open pipe flow

I am trying to design my new sump to go with my new tank. I am looking at having a three compartment plus auto top up reservoir. I don't know whether to has a standard 123 set up with 1 being The water in, filter sock and skimmer, 2 being a refugium with box and Algae, and 3 be on the return compartment.

Or, having the main siphon drain going into Number one with the skimmer and sock. Number three being the open pipe drain from the bean animal, and then both flowing into number two which will be the return.

My worry is that if I go with the first option, the flow will be quite fast for the refugium.

My question is, I know the open pipe only takes up the slack flow from the main siphon, but in peoples experience, will it be enough flow for the refuge and does this sound like a good idea?

I am looking at a 5 to 8 times turnover of 100 gallon tank.

Thanks. Steve.

Actually, it's Be An Animal.....most people don't know that though.

I made the 'fuge a separate tank so I wouldn't have this problem and tee'd off my return with a gate valve for flow control. Dumps into my sump center section which houses my heaters and skimmer.
