Bean Animal overflow help

Any one near wheeling, il 60090, that know about the bean animal over flow system and can help me tune it? Will pay for your time.

You should be getting 80-90% of your flow though primary where you have the valve.You shouldn't get any bubbles and it should be silent.Don't know if that helps any.

mine is not silent and im getting bubbles?

If you want to solve this remotely:

Can you post pics?
Do you have two pipes that lead from your display tank to your sump, or do you have thee?
One of the pipes should be restricted with a valve, and the other (one or two) not restricted at all?
The one that is restricted should terminate below the level of the water in the sump.
The valve should be adjusted closed so that no air is sucked into this pipe at all, but only so closed that a trickle of water flows through one of the unrestricted pipes. Not a lot of water, but just a trickle.
So another requirement is that the "start" opening of the restricted pipe is lower vertically than the opening of the unrestricted pipe.
The pipe that is unrestricted should terminate just above the surface of the water in the sump.

Is #1 true? I just posted that exact topic on RC, and was told by 2 posters that the inlet of the down-turned elbow for the primary and secondary drain should be the same level in the overflow box.

How can it be a silent system is #2 is true? The trickle falling into the sump will sound like a leaky faucet... Right?

Context -- I'm going to tune my first bean animal on Friday.

Larcat, #1 Is correct, and so is the advice you got from the two posters on RC. If the inlets are at the same level then the actual level at which the downturned (trickle) pipe starts to flow, is higher.

#2 is correct also. Even though there is a trickle, it is almost silent. It is a requirement that this pipe not be submerged. Doing so will cause a lot of noise.

If the inlets are at the same level then the actual level at which the downturned (trickle) pipe starts to flow, is higher. The height of that 180 turn around can be large or small. Small is better in some ways ie the level in the sump doesn't change a lot when the trickle pipe is called upon to run at full siphon (ie the case where there is too much overflow for the main pipe). This should be an infrequent condition once the system is tuned. Large is better so that the system can have a larger sweet spot to handle variations in the return pump flow rate etc. But with large height differential the total system volume may fluxtuate more as the ato and evaporation do their things. Another way to increase the sweet spot us to actually lower the inlet of the main pipe compared to the trickle pipe.
