Bean animal overflow

Hello everyone I have some questions around overflows. I have 12 gallon long with a ghost overflow knockoff with a bean animal overflow. This is my first custom overflow as well as my first bean animal. I have a very oversized pump. I currently have two of the drains with full siphon and the third as emergency. The emergency over flow plus any one drain can handle the pump output. Is there any reason to not run both drains full siphon? I have also added air to each full siphon to fix air gaps. My plan is to close the ball valve on the pump when feeding and re-open to a set level when done. I have tested and both full siphons start automatically. Any suggestions or issues I am missing? I have attached a pic for reference.

Thanks
Rodney

Adding the air tube means they aren't full siphons anymore, they are Dursos instead. A Durso can probably handle your undersized pump.

You don't have a BeanAnimal. You have a pair of Dursos. They don't need to "start" which is why you don't have any issues.

If you want to shut off the system for feeding, you would be better off just turning the return pump off and back on. Personally I never saw the need but then I feed into flow so it doesn't go down the overflow.

Good Luck,

Rocket that makes perfect sense. Any issue you can see with this setup? My pump is the same pump I had on my 120. Can't recall the model but is an Eheim. Is shutting ball valve off on the pump bad for it?

I personally would set it up correctly. Now, I do recommend that the siphon pipe be lower than the Durso pipe which isn't quite how BeanAnimal describes it. However, after playing with the pipe heights in my own setup, I found that having the siphon being totally submerged before the Durso starts taking water helps to purge the siphon faster and kicks everything over right from the get go.

Yes cutting the pump off is an issue because the pump uses the water moving through it as coolant. If you totally shut off the flow, the pump has no way of keeping cool and will eventually burn itself out. Turning it off is a much better option. I personally like the American DJ powerstrips found on Amazon because they allow me control of individual items. Just flip a switch on the panel. No need to unplug anything.

HTH,

Thanks for the advice Rocket I can conver it over to bean animal later. Right is very quit and zero fuss with two durso
