Bean Animal??

@wakerider, what do you mean lower both channels? What do you hope to gain by doing so? The lower the OC is, the more water can get into it, thus forcing the siphon to be turned up to balance the system.

1 1/2" drains and a coast to coast overflow on a 210g.
I have the reefflo snapper hybrid.

That's exactly what I had; same pump too. I was happy with it, until my tank cracked. :/ Completely unrelated to the overflow.

Yup, you're right. I wasn't thinking about that.

Jerpa,

i am on the process to set up my new system and i have a few quetions. Will have BA oveflow with 1.5" drain pipes and 2x1" return. sump wil be in the basement and i will have about 10-13" drain drop. Would you recomend to install all 3 gate valves ( drain lines) in the basement close to the sump?

Rrasco I was reading your thread before I did mine.
Sorry about your tank but the new one was sweet.
Yes that combo is awesome.
Sorry for hijacking your thread.

thank you,

yes, 10-13' ..

you right i missed it..

have you installed this way and did you use gate valves or ball vavles? on BA diagram show regular ball valves.

I run the herbie now.. I can tell you that you DEFINITELY what to spend the extra $ to buy a gate valve instead of a ball valve.

Gate valves are way more precise. Ball valves are usually difficult to turn and near impossible to make small adjustments with.

yes, i guess i missed it...

thank you, so i use 2x gate valves and 1 ball on "emergency "line ,do you think this willbe fine on a long run?

I second that. I tried a ball valve, it 'worked' but you don't have much control over the flow. The gate valves let you fine tune the siphon making it just right for the system. I even bought one of the expensive spears gate valve.

No. You only need one gate valve on the full siphon drain.

You can opt to put ball valve (or gate valves if you like wasting money) on the other drains if you so choose. I will not be putting any valves on these lines..

My setup will be one gate valve on the main siphon.. That is it.

Ya. MarineDepot has decent deals on spears gate valves. I've noticed BRS tries to rip you off on them..

I have like 6 of them running in my current system now.

MD does have pretty good deals on them. I got mine from glass holes when I was ordering a few things earlier this year.

I also only run one valve, on the siphon channel. I see no practical purpose in valves on the other channels.
