Beans yet again... LoL

Alright, so my parents gave me money to build these things so I could get my tank out of their house, so, I went to Lowe's today. Got the 1.5" PVC pipe, 20 ft of it so I could make sure that I have enough to plumb everything where I'd like it to go.

I was able to get everything except the 1/4" John Guest Fitting, and they were one 1.5" Slip x 1" PVC bushing short.... The guy told me they wouldn't have the John Guest Fitting, would wal-mart or somewhere else have this fitting? This is the only thing stopping me from putting these things together...

Hopefully everything will go alright. This is my first time and no one is really close enough to ask for help as I am flat broke for the most part and everyone lives so far! :-(

Anyways, let me know if you would.. Thanks everyone.

The may not be called john guest fittings at Lowes or HD. There is an isle that has a lot of little pieces and you have to look for them. They are typically in the isles where all the miscellaneouse plumbing parts for sinks and toilets selections of hose and tubing are found.

+1 on what Mike said. They come one to a bag. I know that HD carries these. I would guess that Lowes does 2. As they usually have a better selection. Also, there is a New Menards in Massillon that has these. Good luck.

I got mine from Lowes. WATTS PL-3006 1/4" tubing 3/8" MIP Quick Connect Male Adapter. Hope that helps.

If you look at Bean's actual tank... he uses the WATTS 1/4" stop valve adapter. It's a male threaded adapter on one side, and a quick disconnect on the other. I think it's like $5 or $7 at Lowes. Then the threaded side screws down into the cap on the standpipe.

Here is the pic from his website.

Hmmm... Is there an actual purpose for this? I thought the fitting was just to connect the tubing to in case it needed to kick in that suction? I was thinkin about just drillin my one cap big enough for the actual tubing to fit into.

The purpose of using a fitting instead of just jamming tubing into the cap is to ensure an airtight seal. Otherwise the siphon will not kick in on that line.

Are his really close to the tank or is it just the pic? I have approximately 4.5" between the tank and the pipes.? I used the exploded diagram pic he had up,and my pipes seem to stick out quite a bit more than his... The pieces of pipe I cut to fit all the pieces together, there is about 1/8" of the actual pipe showing, so the pieces are almost butting up against one another.

I'll try and grab some pics later this evening after dinner and such.

my pipes hang away from my tank too bennyd. i have tried everything to get it closer but because of how far the bulkheads stick out and even having the drain t's butted to the bulkheads they still are good amount away from the tank. any one know a way to get them closer?

That doesn't matter.

Mine on my 90g tank came off the back farther as well.

In fact, as I told you in the PM... With the 220g system I was attempting to set up, I was actually planning on running the plumbing out of the bulkhead, and through a wall before adding the sanitary tees and true union valves on the other side.

His looks so close because his taped on background is falling off in that picture and is leaning into the pipes. Look near the bottom of the tank and you'll see how far they stick out.
