Coral Reef has stunning 3-4" Croacea clams for $29.99 & 2 huge 5-6" beautiful Squamosa clams w/blue striping for $89.

Ask for the CMAS discount too, if you're a paid, card-carrying member (unlike me [& over 50% of the other members of CMAS], till tomorrow).

OK, I just picked out the nicest one! The rest are for you guys, unless I go back agan tomorrow, for another one. They said since these are priced as low as they can go, there is no CMAS discount on them but everything else is (10%).

Hey puff,

I saw those small calms there. How big do they get and how fast?

They are croacea clams?

Can I keep one in a BioCube 29 with stock lighting?

Crocea clams are one of the slowering growing clams. Stock Biocube lighting is not enough. You really need Halide lighting for these Tridacna clams.

Stock lighting. 1 Coralife 10,000K 36Watt Compact Fluorescent lamp. 1 Coralife Actinic 36Watt Compact Fluorescent lamp. Tank is about 14 inches deep.

Are there any clams I can keep that look good enough to be worth keeping?

Coral Reef gave one away for the CMAS meeting raffle today. Congrats to Red Sea Purple Tang! They're going fast (3 left, as of this afternoon) but should get more in next week, for the same price.

Here's the one I bought yesterday:

Jenni, hope you QTed those clams, and anyone else. I walked in there today, and 2 clams were dead, covered in snails/crabs, one other on its way out to my eye. I had to tell the kid in the fish room to get the clams out of there before they polluted their system (clams are really messy when they die.) Kid was like, "How do you know they are dead? They just came in yesterday, I don't think they are dead."

I said, "Pull one out and smell it." He almost fell over. Clams also reek more than most any other animal in our tanks when they die.

i bet they do!

Most likely these are wild so make sure to check for pyramidal snails on the bottom of the snail. They are really tiny. Check out the Clam section on RC for more info. These things can kill a snail.

I looked mine over pretty closely & I don't see any snails. The foot is pretty thin though--I can see right thru the clam from the back. Same thing happened to my other one & it's 3 years old now.

What some great clams, keep an eye on DFS divers den. I was just up there yeasterday and they had some unbelieveable maximus that will be hitting the den in the next week or two. There was also an orange tear drop that brought tears to my eyes. that one wont begoing up for sale for some time though. The max... that I saw had almost a ghostly look, purples greys and blues. They had 3...now two:)
I beliieve they said ity would be a couple weeks befor ethey where on the den

Now 1 ;)

That 5" one disappeared, it was weird like it spontaneously combusted...

I didn't think clams could do that.

I can't believe you guys didn't buy that teardrop! that's gorgeous! I can only afford the cost & space for my $30 3"er though.
