Beautiful Rock, Lots of Extras! =D

I am posting a link to the photobucket folder so I don't have to clutter the thread w/so many additional pictures and save myself the time of copying/pasting them all in.

45G Tall Aquarium (36" long, 24" high, 12" wide)

So my 1st shipment came before Richard left on his vacation and had over a month to get settled in. Pictures 1-13 (photobucket for whatever reason has the 1st uploaded as the last picture, so they're backwards...but look at the file name and you'll see the file number) are just the 1st shipment and show the enormous growth of macroalgae after only 4 weeks. In that shipment I caught one mantis and lots of crabs. The mantis was particularly hard to catch, but I managed in the end. Unfortunately, probably due to all the club soda he had to put up with, he didn't make it. I counted at least 5 types of macroalgae on the rock - 3 green and 2 red/purple. The greens consisted of the easily seen round leaf type caulerpa and the 2nd and 3rd are probably some type of blade caulerpa - one being thin, feathery blades and the other being fat, thick blades. The red/purple algae resembles that of a stalk-like red algae I think I've seen called grape algae. The other red algae is feathery.

The second order was due at 10pm, but was lost, found, delayed, and then delayed again. It finally made it 31 hours after it first went into the air. What looked to be the remains of a decorator crab and a slightly more smelly 2nd rock box was all the repercussions of that though, so I'm quite impressed. I have decided I don't like South West Airlines though, so if I ever need more rock I think I'll have to request a different carrier :P Pictures 12-22 show it with the 2nd shipment added. Disregard the floating bag of additional snails I added the next day :P The rock was great - an extremely large 'plate-type' piece that I could barely fit into my aquarium! I will probably do some aquascaping after everything's settled in (~month) and reposition that one. I was a little worried with the 1st batch that there wasn't going to be as much rock as I wanted, but this *really* filled it up. Oh, and I found a lime green mantis shrimp with pink eyes at the bottom of one 2nd rock box. Extremely pretty little guy, I got him to an aquarist the next day who absolutely adores him, and got me an ORA oregon tort frag...talk about sweet deal mm? =D

The Rest of the Package & Extras:
So as you can probably see in the pictures, there are two tree sponges - one orange and one red. There is a half of a sphere red sponge, and what I've called a 'cauliflower-type' orange sponge. These add some very cool colors to the tank, but I wonder at their survival rate. If I may ask, who still has their TBS sponges after 2 months? Back to the extras - a purple whip gorgonian - gosh it's purty! And then another thick and very large gorgonian. If I get my wish and this turns into the seahorse tank I want it to be, these will be *great* hitches. There are numerous tube/cup corals and a tree of little cup corals that's simply awesome to look at. There was also a little blenny, and man, is he ever CUTE =D He's got a lot of personality and went to chomping away at the algae on the rocks from the 1st batch. Two anemones - I believe one sebae and one condi. A porcelain crab, decorator crab that I found in the rocks (not the smooched one), a mushroom coral, two peppermint shrimps, a serpent seastar, lots of snails and hermits, and I think that was about it. Hope I'm not forgetting anything, but there really was quite a bit extra =D

One last note:
A few days before the 2nd shipment of rock came in, a coral beauty angel fish started going psycho on my corals/clams/feather duster in my reef tank. She had previously been reef-safe for a number of years, but probably due to the stress of moving, she started picking at a number of things. I moved her to the 45G, and a day after the 2nd shipment arrived, an isopod was attached to her caudal peduncle. I think the isopods were already there with the first shipment, but I just crossed my fingers and hoped they were 'the bad kind'. Apparently that didn't work though ;) So, knowing full well what I was getting into, I'm going to be trying the trap design and method outlined by Brian :)

Good Customer!

Good Customer!

Well done!

First I must say thanks for not having the "OMG" my freight is delayed...reaction...happens all the time shipping via the airlines...

Shipping air cargo is tough, anytime, especially on the 4th weekend.....
SW was in a tough spot with lots of passengers, and weather.....they actually do a great job for us...

But is hard to understand as we all expect on-time flights.....me too like LAX to Tampa....from Thailand....anyway...good thing is that you did everything right, got the killer rock and everybody is happy, for that you get an A++++....as I know you had lots of concern over the delayed flights...me too... I hate when it happens, but it does.....but the good news is...all is well...which makes you and me very happy!

Is why I pack the rock to last for days in the box, just in case it has too!!!

Thanks!
Richard TBS

Oh, it wasn't because Southwest was delayed so much as they're not very nice over on this end :P They weren't very nice w/the first shipment either. The attitude from a lot of them isn't "thanks for shipping with us" it's "you've shown up to bother me to get your crap, and I dislike you for interrupting my day, so take your stuff and leave." It's just a personnel thing so the airline itself I suppose isn't as much at fault...except for hiring them :P

Thanks!

Thanks!

Thanks for that feedback, I will relay that to the proper big wigs.....as I know them, and they will be greatly distressed over this as their thing is...customer service.....

Thanks for this first hand facts with you experience with SW......although they will be real interested in their performance with your shipment as they are 100% customer oriented...please forward me a letter as to what transpired, and I will make sure it gets notice!

Your tank looks great rjarnold ... glad you're so happy with yours...it reaffirms how I feel also ..:D I am almost 2 mos. and have had good luck with the sponges (and everything else except 1 shaving brush worm) .. have some of the same :

The sponges on the substrate in front and the giant feather duster worm came with part 2 .. have a decorator crab that loves the red tree ... he sleeps hanging at the top! have many small sponges that came with the rock and made it through a rough cycle ... major diatoms ... but it cleared quickly and all came back.
keep the camera and tripod handy ... found something new this morning that I'm trying to figure out ... some type of anemone I think.. Happy hunting and good luck ...

I guess maybe its your terminal then. I received both of my packages through Southwest Airlines and they were very nice and accomadating they called me when they arrived I advised them i wouldn't be able to pick them up until 5-6 hours and they made sure to keep them in a shaded area of the pickup area and made sure all the packages were not damaged.

Yea had me wondering also, so I called Dallas......to see if it was a contract labor station, or SW employees........it is staffed by employees.

This is the first I have heard of feedback like this about southwest.....as usually it is always the opposite...

Dallas ...their headquarters, wanted all the info about the shipments, and are investigating as I write this, as their big thing is customer service, and they mean it!

Maybe they were having a bad day, twice...who knows, but their concern over the matter shows where their interest is..

I think someone there needs an attitude adjustment. LOL. :)

BTW my tank is still thriving. I need to find a new home for the anemone its grown very large and is making the other inhabitants of the tank upset. Oh and the urchine that was the size of a pencil eraser well he/she/it is now the size of a golf ball.

Good looking tank Rjarnold. S.W. was great here in Oakland, but I think that is there only Bay Area terminal.....

Southwest was wonderful at Islip also. I had a delay with my part 2, and they were nice enough to call Baltimore for me since my part 2 was not on a direct flight like part 1 was.
There was a "good chance" it may not make the last flight of the day from Baltimore to Islip after being bumped from the 2nd to last flight.
Once Baltimore heard what the cargo was (from the guy at Islip), they made sure it got on the flight so we could get it that night. I felt they went out of their way rather than take the "who cares" attitude like many places do today.

tangafish, my wait is over! Part 2 is due to arrive tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!

BTW, for those wondering about TBS....Richard's customer service is unbeatable!! He called me at work ( ! ) today because it is quite difficult to ship LR here and have it arrive on the same day. He seemed quite concerned about it, as the 1st part had to be held over night. How sweet and considerate is that!! What a dude!

Will post pics as soon as I can catch my breath...wish me luck all!!!!
