Beckett injector protein skimmer

Well, I haven't had it running. I fixed the bottom part. I took the pvc shower drain out and glued the jar to the bottom. It's drying right now. Tomorrow I hope to fix the top part some way and make the riser tube a lil' bigger. Then I will get it in the water to see how it runs. Still may be a few days till we know how it's gonna work. Hang in there with me!

Ok guys, I'm up and running. the pvc shower drain is out and there is hardly any restriction from top to bottom. I didn't mess with the top yet, I wanted to see how it works like this. I will let it break in a day or two and we'll see how it is doing. Here are some pics. It is in my rock tank for now.

Looking good ,I did notice that you have a strainer on the output of your input. You will get some improvement if you remove it.It will definately pop a lot of the bubbles being produced. Also with a larger neck you will improve performance as well.Besides that it looks like its doing a good job.Keep us updated.I also saw your post on neareefkeeping, not sure if you want to put a valve on the input.Becketts need at least 1000gph for optimal performance. But hey if its working for you, then go with what you got.A lot of people offer opinions and have never even owned a beckett skimmer,so keep that in mind.

I do have a valve on the input but it's wide open. I have lot of waste in there already. It's a quarter of the way full and dirty water. So it's working pretty good...

I dont think there is an actual correct gph for becketts, but you do need at least 1000gph for decent performance.IIRC its best to feed about 1400gph to a beckett for best performance.

Kgeorge uses a mag9.5 on his,but his skimmer is not that tall, well it doesnt look to be that tall.I used a mag18 on my old beckett skimmer which was 32" tall.

You definately want to use a pressure rated pump, and keep head height of the pump in mind.

You might want to try email Zephrant here on RC,he has a lot more experience with becket skimmers then me.Check out this thread, its a large beckett skimmer that he built, there is also a link for another beckett skimmer that he built on the OP.
