Beginner Biocube 29 with "Life" Rock

Hi all, I'm new to the salt water hobby and I've recently purchased the Biocube 29.

The LFS recommended I start my tank with the Carib Sea Life Rock.

Before I start my tank I was wondering if anyone has any experience, either good or bad, with the Life Rock or whether I should go get some live rock.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated!

Have a read through the stickies t the top of this forum, theres some great info in them.

Most will say start with dry rock and "cook"(you don't really cook it, its just a term used to get the rock ready for a tank(also in the stickies)) it, then seed it with a small piece of live rock. Using mostly dry rock you avoid most of the pests you get with all live rock.

Looking at a link to that rock, it looks to be pretty expensive for dry rock. Don't believe the hype about it being full of spores, just like their "live" sand.

I used life rock on my first tank and saw virtually no cycle. The life rock is purple so looks like fully cured live rock with coraline. I think the live rock in my new tank is "prettier" but I don't regret the life rock choice. Guaranteed zero pests and a much quicker cycle. Depends if you like the looks of it.

If he other question I didn't ask was l... Regardless of dry or live... Should I place it on sand or settle it on the glass and place sand around it?

Put it directly on the glass or on egg crate and then sand. This way it wont shift and crush a tank friend.
