Beginner with corals (flower pot)

Yeah, my clown started to hang on my Turbastrea/suncoral and it soon started to polyp eject. I removed the clown and the coral has stopped ejecting and started to bud anew. Still looks dead when compared to what it was pre-clown. I put clowns right below Damsels, on my Fish to Avoid list.:)

Hello All:

I am also new to salt and within three weeks of setting up my tank my wife bought me an Alveopora as a suprise present. At the time my lighting was underpowered (40 w fluorescent) and within two weeks the Alveopora was barley opening....I upgraded to a 150 MH and it fully recovered....It is now doing very well and seems to "bloom" much better than ever before. I just started adding Kent ZooPlex and Coral Accel to supplement my Gorgonian, which I guess will also help my Alveopora?

The other thing(s) I have read about these corals is that both clowns & hermit crabs will kill them in the long run.
Also, I've seen suggestions that refugeiums are required.

Again, not direct experience, I'm too much a newbie to risk it, though the ones at the LFS are truly breathtaking..

Update on my flower pot

Update on my flower pot

First of all, it is alveopora with 12 tentacles on each polyp. Yes !!

I took a pic and I'll get it developed and scanned in sometime but this is the best match I could find on the web.

http://www.reefcorner.com/SpecimenSheets/alveopora.htm

It is a light tan with green on the ends. It continues to grow rapidly. Rapidly in that each day there are signs of it expanding further down the sides of the rock.

I didn't think that wholesale reef outfit I've gotten introduced to would do me wrong. The local KC reef club swears by them.

I'll drop a note back sometime but at this point I'm thinking the whole rush to judgement on all flowerpots and the FUD around their level of difficulty has me believing that I just need to press forward and not get to worried about it. I'll just keep maintaing my tank as I have been and move on.

Clowns.....yes. Hermits......I've never heard of that one.

I don't use one but they definately will benefit from it.
