Beginning research and treatment of Marine Snot

Been dosing daily x 4 now. Top of water remains clear of all bacterial colonies still. You can still see bacterial colonies on the sides of the over-flow however. Some appeared on my glass this morning. I vacuumed out as much as I could, vacuumed out my sump (had a lot in the sump as usual), and did a 10% water change today at lunch time. I dosed the 4th dose just now and will check on it tomorrow. I did notice some cyano building in small amounts today. I'll keep you posted.

Just wanted to post an update. I've been dosing Bactrim DS x 10 days now. I won't dose any more. From first glance it appears to have solved my problem. The bacterial colonies are no longer present anywhere that I can see. There doesn't appear to be much side effect damage to the animals in the tank. All fish are unaffected, but it appears that some of my LPS corals are unhappy and not opening up as much as others. Overall I'm happy with the progress, but since I'm a surgeon I'll give my favorite quote "Nothing ruins a successful surgery/treatment like long-term follow-up."
I have the algae turf scrubber running full tilt with no sign of algae yet. I've never hoped for algae so much in my entire life. I'll keep ya'll posted.

In the last week, I experienced a similiar event of clear to light green snot with strong holdfast and long flowing filaments of the same. This is a 55G frag production tank with 500W of MH. After manual harvesting to little avail, with new growth in differrent areas within a few hours, I installed a 70W UV sterilizers. Overnight, the snot is gone with little left attached. I will discontinue UV after one week.

In your case, I would recommend large water change and aggressive use of GAC to remove chemicals from antibiotic treatment. Aside from bacteria in a bottle, I recommend using NSW or a mature system for your source of makeup water to reintroduce healthy bacteria diversity. A new live rock may be what your tank now needs to regain a healthy to regain its balance.
