Bellus Angels

Having my first luck with 4 female Bellus Angels after 1 year looks like largest female has started the change to Male. Anyone else out there have any luck with this..

Please photo the changes. I have kept Bellus for years but never had a female change. I have always purchased mature males.

I have a trio now (1 male / 2 females) the second female was added as a tiny 3/4" fish and has grown to full size in the past year. Not much harem behavior between the 3 though.

Sorry to butt in. Dave you say your female has grown to full size in the past year? is that it has reached full size in the past year or grown from the tiny juvi to adult in that time? I've had one for around a year now and there is growth but not what i'd call quick. I've read lots of time that these grow slowly for an angel so didn't think there was a problem.

Would love to see pics of the colour change though. A harem is something i would love to do one day.

I went back through my photos and found photos of the Baby Bellus from June 19th when I brought it home.

My original mature female was about 3.5 to 4". Now I can't tell the two apart.

While looking through the old photos I found a picture of my Goldflake who was a Juvenile last June as well and is now mature too.

From June of 2012

Thanks. The pictures of yours then look very similar to the size of mine now. I think it has probably doubled in size since i have had it as it was really tiny. Its also not as long as i thought, about 8 months now.

its got plenty of space to grow in and eats like a pig. Perhaps as its on its own the growth in lessened? Might be worth adding another later to see how that effects things.

I originally had a female Bellus for over 2 years, finally purchased a male and put it in QT, after ~3 weeks in QT it reverted to F, but its color pattern was not 'correct/normal'...Put the 2 F together in tank both were dominated by a large M Lamarcks... After ~yr I removed the Lamarcks and within a month the 'M turned F' again turned M! It grew an inch in a month. When I added a harem of Swallowtails, they were dominated by the M Bellus and the 'Zebra' reverted to F...last month, after a yr together , the 'Zebra turned F', grew over an inch in 2 weeks and turned M again, is now slightly bigger than the M Bellus, and they all get along!...and now the M Bellus no longer chases the F swallowtails!!!
