Nelson,

If you buy some let me know. I have a some Aptasia I need to get rid of.

How well do you think they do at controlling Aptasia? Has anyone tried them?

Thanks,
Chris

WARNING: Do not get a berghia for 10 or so aiptasia. The only thing that they eat are aiptasia. It will not take any substitute to aip and when the 10 are gone, it will starve. The animal will not live without constant regeneration or repopulation of the aiptasia. If you get one and it eats it, you need to get it into another tank with aiptasia ASAP!! There are much easier, less expensive, and hardier solutions to the aip problem. The berghia is an easy way out, but it is at the expense of other animals. And yes, when they die, they are toxic to the tank. Granted, one dying will probably not kill of your stuff, but it does not make it a pleasant living environment.

First option: Joe's Juice. This stuff kills aiptasia through the aip trying to eat it(it tastes good to them) and getting a nice strong dose of Kalk along with the food. They shrivle up and die

Second option(can be used along with the first to get even better results: Peppermint shrimp. These guys are known feeders on aiptasia, but the good thing about these guys, they can eat algae, pods, flake, pellet, or frozen food also. They are not a cure-all like the berghia, but they are much more resilient, reliable, and hardy.

Trust me, you do not want to bring a berghia upon yourself unless you are willing to have a tank dedicated to aiptasia propagation.

Cshweitzer,

Thanks for the information.

I have heard that most shrimp sold as peppermint do not eat Aptasia.

Are aptasia really that bad? Will they end up stinging and killing most corals?

I use Joe's juice and it kills them in seconds ... no propagation after that. Until I get a new coral or rock.

Chris, I had some aptasia in my tank, my peppermint shrimp did take care of them.... but then again I never really have a huge outbreak of them either....

I understand that they will die if no aiptasia is left, thats why im asking if anyone is interested cause if i get one, i would gladly arrange a hand over once it's job is done. I've tried using Stop Aiptasia but it doesnt do that great of a job. Also, i've had pepermint shrimp before and they ate my feather dusters before, i got a few large hawainn dusters inmy tank.

Dave,

Yeah I may be trying some peppermint shrimp. The Aiptasia I have I have tried it all. Lemon Juice and Kalk injections. Neither seem to work on them. )-: It use to kill them in my old tank. I wonder why it is not working now. Weird. But there are some I just cannot get to and peppermints could reach them.
Now if I can find the right kinf of peppermint.

peppermint shrimp & or copper band. I use to nuke them with hot kalk past. All 3 worked for me.
