berghia

It is not allowed to give commercial links, but web search will show you website, dedicated to them. I got mine from another source, different country, but they ship well, I had no losses.

I have a question about these. I had a hitchiker of one of these a week ago about, and let it go thinking they were safe, are they reef safe?

well there are species that speclalize in eating soft corals..you need to find it, identify it ,and probably remove it...if it is a hitchiker it could be a nuisance sp.

good luck!!

Well I kinda killed it when I saw it on my leather tree coral  it was really small and yellow/tan with those purplish green things on it's back.
but thanks :)

Have you guys had any luck with the Berghia? I have been considering getting some but i have been hearing mixed reviews on them living long enough to make a differance on the apis.

I had no luck and spent 200 dollars on them.... :(
I also purchased the babies though and have heard people have better luck with the adults?!!

I keep hearing that you pretty much have to keep a small breeder tank of them in constant supply. I cant decide if they are worh the investment and the upkeep.

yeah me to, but after reading Anthony Calfo article (http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2004-01/ac/feature/index.php)
it sounds like you should start a small breading tank so that you hava a constant supply:
"Any realistic plans for keeping Berghia at any size will necessarily embrace a specialized system at the start... Placing newly purchased Berghia directly into a display tank is not recommended - they will almost certainly die or be killed by any one of a number of pitfalls in the aquarium before they completely eradicate plague Aiptasia populations.
"
Ironically this means you'll have to "farm" aiptasia as a crop. "Aquarists interested in culturing Berghia will inevitably want to set up a tank for co-culturing food -Aiptasia- for a controlled and reliable source of prey to offer."

After reading all of this it sounds to me that if you are going to "invest" in Berghia you'd better plan on setting up a way to have a continuing supply.
