I have a Red Sea Pharm Berlin Skimmer and I am not sure I have the air tubes properly connected
Here is an head-on shot: http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f198/CarmieJo/Skimmer001.jpg and a sideview: http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f198/CarmieJo/Skimmer004.jpg and a closeup of the connections I've made: http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f198/CarmieJo/Skimmer006.jpg

You can see the skimmer inside my cabinet here: http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f198/CarmieJo/Skimmer008.jpg but there is no foam in the cup http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f198/CarmieJo/Skimmer011.jpg

Thanks for your help!

the yellowish cord is a drain line for you collection cup, that you need to run to a rubbermaid or bucket or can or whatever(outside of tank/sump)......where you had it connected to should have its own airline that runs with the one next to it (keep both of them above water)......the black one coming from bottom also needs to run up and out of the water.....the 2 bigger hoses are the output for the skimmer that drain back into tank/sump

i think i got that right:)

The 2 lines that are coming out right before the big hoses are holes to allow air into the retun lines so they run all the time. If you have the hose like that the skimmer will back up. Is that the Rio 2500 if it is then you will not have enough pressure coming from the pump with that long of a hose in order to get the level in the skimmer high enough. The yellow line is a drain and needs to go to some kind of collection place outside of the sump. My recommendation is that you use it in the sump shorten the hose from the Rio as much as you can and looking at the pictures you have the white screw on the side tightened down make sure it is all of the way open. I didnt even have it on mine. The skimmer will work great once you have enogh pressure to the skimmer to get the level to the right place.

Let me see if I have this right

Let me see if I have this right

1 - The nibs over the big hoses are inlets and need to be left open
2 - The black line should not be connected at the top
3 - The yellow line is a drain and needs a collection container

I bought the tank, skimmer and a bunch of other stuff from a guy who was moving out of state the next day. Needless to say nothing was hooked up. The skimmer had been accidentally loaded on the moving van so I couldn't ask him all the details with the unit in front of me. Nevertheless, I believe he used the Rio on the skimmer because :) there is a tag on it labeled "skimmer". Would you suggest a more powerful pump? This is a corner tank and there is limited room in the cabinet. I don't believe that the skimmer will fit in the sump with the pumps and heater. I feel certain that the prior owner used it outside of the sump since there is a non salt marked area that is shaped exactly like the base of the skimmer. The tube from the pump to the skimmer is already at the minimum length. I had already played with the venturi to get the maximum lift.

After typing all this I thought it might be a good idea to re-arrange the tubes as suggested and viola! Foam.

Well, now that the skimmer is working my tank is looking good! I've added some hermits and am looking forward to S-L-O-W-L-Y stocking it. Thanks for your help.
