Can someone help me out with some lengths for external installation up of a 3C...

I'm running a 20l as a sump and I was wondering if I can install externally without having to lift the 3C on a platform to have it lip over the 13" high wall?

I only have about 25" of height in my stand and was wondering if I'm going to be able to fit this guy underthere or figure something else out...

Thanks,

Ok ... From the bottom of the skimmer base to the underside of the return T is about 11 3/4". That's with the slip pipe at it's lowest point. With that, you would need to place the skimmer on a 1 1/4" platform to get over the wall of your sump. From base of skimmer to top of cup is 22 1/2" without the vent cap. You need just a hair under 23 1/2" clearance to get the skimmer cup off for cleaning. So, if you lift the skimmer base up with a 1 1/4" platform you are at 24 3/4" needed to get the cup off which leaves you with 1/4" of leeway for your 25" under stand clearance.

BUT ... you could always raise the slip pipe up enough to clear the sump wall without needing a platform to raise the skimmer. You could then use a gate valve on the output of the skimmer feed pump to throttle down the output if needed , to compensate for raising the slip pipe. That's assuming that you wouldn;t need the slip pipe raised in the first place. Anyway ... that would leave you 1 1/2" to get the cup off of the skimmer which should be comfortable enough clearance to not be a real PITA.

One more thing. I would recommend a gate valve anyway. The pump I am currently using is undersized as far as GPH recommendations of Bermuda. But it is a pressure rated pump and I have it throttled down (Skimmer slip pipe as low as it gets) because it is still too strong of a pump.

You're very welcome! Glad I could help someone.

Thanks again... I'm thinking I may cut out the base floor which would allow me to insert the 20L and buy me another 2" or so...
