Bermuda Rogue HOB skimmer HELP

I am having problems with my skimmer. When the power comes off and on (during feeding timers or power outages) water is backing up in the air intake tube. If I let the water drain and turn it off and on several times, I can get it to suck again, but this isn't practical, so if anyone has this skimmer or can help it would be greatly appreciated. My tank is tall so I upgrade to Rio 1400 about a year ago. Should I go even larger on the pump?

Thanks again I am desperate as this company has gone out of business and so I have no support:(

I have a burmuda rogue skimmer and it works very well. Try raising the air tube for the venturi higher than the skimmer collection cup -that way gravity will keep the water from exiting the air tube. I am actually using a rio 1700 pump with the water exit fully open. I also had this problem until i lifted the air tubing higher.

I just had another problem - with the water rising to high in the skimmer and overflowing into the collection cup. I discovered I had some bubble alga blocking the holes on the bottom of the skimmer and when I cleaned the skimmer everything was back to normal.

Thank you so much for the suggestion. Which side of the unit was being blocked by the algae? I ask because it seems as if it would be hard to clean areas deep inside the skimmer?

Also, how tall is your tank? My Rio 1700 is 29" deep, so that is why I thought about stepping up to the next size pump?

Thanks again for your help:spin3:

The water leaves the main chamber via small holes at the bottom of the chamber before exiting the skimmer through the sliding gate valve. These holes were clogged by alga. I just took off the skimmer and shook the skimmer vigorously with water and shook loose the bubble alga .

I have my skimmer in a surface overflow box designed to attach to the aquarium by suction cups. I did need to cut the bottom of the pump that extends beyond the screw on pump cover to fit inside the box.

I meant I have my pump in the surface overflow box not my skimmer obviously

If your using the same pump near the surface then it sounds like I might be a bit undersized pushing up over 2feet. I'm ordering a new pump today. I did try your higher tube trick and that is working so far:spin3: I'm hoping the larger pump will produce even more skim:thumbsup:

Thanks again for your help,

My livestock appreciate it:fish1:
