Im liking the XM10 K ,, but thinking about the reeflux 12k's...
I will always love iwasakis for growth though.. Just have to flood them with actinics to get the yellow out

i ran mine on a sls bluewave 7 (mag HQI). after 5-6 months they had changed color and intensity significantly, and all growth had come to a standstill. i swapped them for new bulbs (ab10K) and put one of the old p14s on another tank driven by an icecap. intensity dropped rapidly on the icecap, after another 2-3 months it was far too dim for even the 30cube it was on. i've heard people say that the icecap does not drive a DE bulb as hot as it needs to be driven at to properly vaporize the elements inside and it wears out faster (just like running a car engine too cool can be bad for it).

so basically its the ballast and not the bulb? Hmm... i have icecap ballasts... I'll have to keep an eye out on my lighting...

I have been using PHX for over 2 years. Over sps no longer than 9 months over softies almost 2 years......

I had the Phoenix 14K with my 150DE and when I upped to the 250DE switched to the 14K Ushio.....I thought the Pheonix were too blue, (20K I thought is what I had instead of 14k, actually pulled them out to make sure), so this time I went with these and couldn't be happier with the color. I think I have plenty of light now and am working on my water quality even more now.....which as we know, water and light and flow= happy SPS

How does the 14k phoenix compare to a 14k hamilton? I've never seen a phoenix in person so I need a reference.

Thx

That's weird I've been running my phoenix bulbs for 13 month's with no ill effects and growth is steady and I'm only running them for 6 hours a day on a pfo hqi ballast.

Are the 14k Hamilton 250W DE good WITHOUT actinic on PFO HQI ?

It is very hard when some people supplement, and some don't and you get color opinions. I'm not sure if the opinions are with or without supplements. . .

I just got a used PFO Mini Pendant (old style) fixture and I broke the bulb trying to get it out so that I could do some adjustments to the fixture.

So, I need a bulb that stands on its own and doesn't need supplementation. And, I need to be ready to order by Monday.

I want white with some blue (no yellow! and no staining blue effect!)

So, what is good that will appease my eyes (no yellow) and will make coral happy and colorful, too?

Thanks!
Angela

I run mine for 11hrs no actinics

Also curious about Phoenix bulb life, haven't seen any drop in coral health or color mine are on aqua pro electronic ballasts.

How are the Reeflux bulbs or XM's, I was considering trying those out. (not trying to hijack the thread)
