Best copepod & phyto to raise for small mandarin?

What is the best copepod starter culture*to raise for a mandarin? *Tisbe or Tigger or other? *

Which specific brand of copepod starter/culture? *Where do you buy this? *

Also, what is the best starter phyto culture for the recommended copepod? Which type of phyto? Where do you buy this

I'm looking to buy a captive breed mandarin and apparently they are very small when they arrive. I'm planning to grow copepods to keep a semi constant supply of pods to my 34 G. Red Sea with no sump.

Thank you! *--Doug

Stupid question i have ... but with a sump and proper time and seeding how do the copepods with all the skimmers and filters etc get from the sump back to the tank. Just from the natural flow and catching a "œwave" so to speak? And are you seeding the sump or the main tank with these store bought critters ?

i've had good results ordering from algae barn before. i would also suggest hatching your own baby brine shrimp, and trying live white worms and black worms.

good luck!

I've been looking into this as well recently and have read that tisbe are best for mandarins and that isochrysis & tetraselmis are the best phyto species for tisbe pods. And of course I can't find the source of where I read this, sorry...

This article was pretty great for culturing instructions and you can buy most of the supplies here as well. The article recommends Nanno phyto but I read elsewhere that Nanno isn't the best choice, the outer layer of the cell is too tough for copepods. I haven't tried any of this yet, just sharing what I've learned so far but I really don't know for sure at this point. I've been doing brine shrimp for fish food but to want to start replenishing pods, too. Please let us know what else you find out.
