Best dip for SPS

Ok tried asking this in the Lounge that was a mistake , anyway looking to restock my tank with sps and wonder what dip you guys use and does it really kill flatworms? Since flatworms are what wiped my tank out in the past.

Hey Roger,

I actually tried the Bayer Home Defense with germ killer bug spray from Home Depot and have been very pleased with it.. I watch the progress of folks for over a year before trying it to make sure that there were no ill affects... so far so good.. I have never seen flatworms drop off a coral like I did with this stuff. There is another one by bayer that folks are using as well.. I can't say that I advocate this method yet, but I am saying that it has worked really well thus far.. If you try it, please use all precautions when handling due to it being an insecticide.
 
I use tlf revive coral cleaner, at double strength dipping for 5 minutes and using a turkey baster to blast into sps colonies and frags.

+1 I just started using bayer recently too. I haven't found aefw yet but I would love to actually find a frag with one and watch them fall off. :uzi:
 
I've dipped my SPS corals in Coral Rx with a small powerhead, I know it works cuz I can see the flatworms on the bottom of the bucket.

I've noticed some bite marks on some of my SPS corals, so I do an hour dip with just tank water and some inteceptor, then for the last 12 min I add some coral rx, this will kill off all redbugs and flatworms on the sps pieces. Once again i incorporate a small powerhead in the bucket to blow off all the little buggers
 
+1 on the bayer I've used it for a while now it's hands down my fav dip, I do bayer then another dip in coral rx then rinse works well kills pretty much everything
 
Bayer Advance " Complete Insect Killer ( 10 ml for every 500 ml of tank water for ten minutes) and then 5 minute dip of Revie . I been using it for the last 4 months and have been very happy with the results. Appears to kill everything but AEFW eggs and the coral looks great after the dip.
 
In the past I tried the coralx and it did kill the flat worms but the eggs where already in the system I lost all my sps in 2010 and starting over fresh and wondered if there was a new dip for corals out I see that the makers of Zeovit have a new Serum ..but just want a basic dip that won't stress the corals too much while starting over ..figure dip every week for a month while they are in qt.. then off to the main tank as long as there are no bugs..the bayer stuff i heard is good may have to buy it just to stock it in case..
 
Tank crashed a year plus ago ( long story) and started over. Have placed a gazillion sps frags from many sources since then. I have used the Bayer insecticide on each and every piece including lps. None of the frags have shown any distress from Bayer dipping. No evidence of any pests in the tank. There is nothing that I have either heard or seen that is more effective. The protocol is easy and cheap. Just search for "Bayer " here and r2r to get the lowdown.
 
I've used TLF Revive with good success. Amazing to see how much junk can come off a new colony, especially the mariculture ones. ~10min dip with turkey baster blasting.

I just have to give you MAJOR KUDOS for keeping both units metric. I've been crying about this for a year now since the Bayer method was originally suggested.

And yes, I favor the Bayer dip as well. I've literally dipped hundreds of colonies, and the only one I have a problem with that seems toucy about the dip is A. hyacinthus. All others could care less.

I use 4 mls per liter for 15 minutes with air bubbling, but you could use a small powerhead too (or just baste with the baster), and nothing seems to survive - including but not limited to flatworms, all crustaceans (good and bad), stars, molluscs, whatever.

I rinse the coral in a clean tub of tank water after the dip too.
