Hey guys and gals. I have a couple friends going to hawaii and i was wondering if there are any recommendations? I know he loves to explore and she prefers diving in fish bowls lol. Any input would be greatly appreciated

What island are you going to? I've been to Oahu and the Big Island and the Big Island is far superior of the two. A lot of great spots there.

I dove Oahu a 10 years ago and wasn't impressed with the diving. I only did four dives on that trip.
This trip to Maui, the diving is excellent. I did Molokini four times and I'm not tired of it, also did four beach dives. Molokini is fish bowl diving and we saw a huge Manta on three dives, and a medium sized Manta on one of the beach dives. The beach dives had just OK vis but the Molokini dives had exceptional vis. There is pretty coral not the huge sponges and formations like the Caribbean, but lots and lots of fish. Twice we saw white tips, once in a cavern, once in an overhang. Lots of turtles, and they don't mind you, they actually get kinda close to you.
I haven't dove the big island so I can't help you there, but I'm loving Maui. It has good food, great diving, excellent golfing, lush landscaping (near Wailea and Hana) and lots of places to explore.

I love diving Maui and The Big Island.

On Maui i loved Lani, some of my favorite dives every. 1st and 2nd Cathedral are amazing. I dove Molokini interior and though it was alright, nothing spectacular, it is like a fish bowl dive; but i prefer more diverse terrain (Lava tubes, walls, etc) The back side of Molokini is am amazing wall dive, but its IMO a intermediate dive, and you should have experience with current. Lahina Divers were a great company, with very knowledgeable DMs.

I loved diving Kona. Every dive i did was amazing. I would avoid the Manta dives as they are way way to over crowded, and IMO a tourist trap. If your into night diving, do a deep black water dive, its totally a different world out there at night. Jacks Dive locker is Kona was great, and i highly recommend them.

If your going to Oahu, i cant really recommend anything, but i can tell you Punama bay IMO sucked. It is the biggest tourist trap i have ever been to diving or snorkling. You will see more dead coral than live, and will have to deal with tourists that have no business being on a reef. Maybe i just had a bad experience. :)
