Best Fans

Thanks Greg, I've been meaning to ask you about those fans since I was down there. I just ordered 6 of them. I'll have to find a power supply.

Big thing with the fans... make sure they are pulling outside air in...

When you use them to blow air out of the canopy, they corrode very fast

On the top of my canopy I do use them to pull the are out of the canopy. Hot air rises so to me it only makes since to keep forcing the hot air upward and out of the tank and not push it into the water. The back fans are 3 inches and I have them pushing fresh air over the water.

I'm leaving the back of the stand open, and the top and back of the hood open, so I can get away with just pushing air in.

Would having Fans blowing over a fuge thats underneath the stand be beneficial at all or just a waste of Time/Money?

Mike,
It should not be a problem finding one,you only need 1.2 amps. There is a great electronics salvage place here in town and they have piles of power supplies for next to nothing.

Here is a shot of the hood from the top, the fans on the outside blow down at an angle and the one in the center blows up.

Greg - that is a very cool design and great use of your fans. Are you going to keep the top of the canopy completely open?

I'm already having heat problems, one of my tanks stays 5 degrees higher than the house and the other is like 7 (back room facing south). I use this really hard plastic in my greenhouse for the benchs and was thinking about using that on the top. They are made for heat, water etc. Very cool!

thats were I have mine droped the temp 3 degrees I didnt need much

I agree mine also dropped a few degrees. If you are having heat problems that is definitely a easy place to help cool things down.

Reefartist, yes the top will be completely open.

Mike the last of the wood is going for mill work now. Ill have it all finished and going to paint the end of next week.

I have 2 4" 120 Volt Radio Shack fans, but I hate them. Very noisey and with under one year of use they are corroding. I have them mounted to the inside of my hood forcing air into the hood.

When I replace them I may go with a single ice cap fan.

Anyone with an icecap having issues with corrosion?

Cheers,
Chris

I have some on mine after 5 years. I talked to Andy Ash of Icecap and he told me to remove the fan and plug it in and squirt it with the sprayer over the sink until it was clean and it would run for another 5 years. It is clean now and still running strong with a little surface rust.
