Best fish for a 40 breeder

Going to be moving my 20L up to a 40 breeder. Wondering what is a good fish for this size tank. I was going to keep my clownfish, cleaner and peppermint shrimp. But if I need to move something i may. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

honestly I would just stick with the clownfish. maybe some clown gobies. spend the money on some soft corals like mushrooms, xenia, perhaps a BTA for the clowns. I once saw a tank that was a Xenia forest. It had about 4 diferent types of xenia. to this day it still sticks out in my mind.

thats what i was kind of leaning towards. Wondering if there was anything else a little different that i could go with. Just as happy with my little clowns...actually might look for some black ones or some a little different.

How about a small pseudo, like fridmani or springeri? Maybe a goby/shrimp pair for the bottom? Mine all get along in a 30 hex with my clowns for over 3 years now.

If it were my tank I'd probably round it out with a pygmy angel (cherub, flameback, or whitetail as they stay small), some sort of prawn goby for the sandbed, maybe a banggai or other type of cardinal. Those occupy different strata or have different habits so should work ok together. A firefish would be another option, and neon gobies are always a good utility fish for the cleaning services they provide. I'd suggest a longnose hawk, but it would probably eat the peppermints.

I'm not sure about mixing clowns in a tank that size, though...

Actually here's my gf's 40-breeder:

Maroon clown, longnose hawk, potter's angel, algae blenny.

You almost perfectly called it, tryffin.

Anyway, they seem to get along. She only has colt coral in there... not really a "reef" tank so much.

I have a Flame Hawkfish in there now with a clown......but if you plan on keeping your shrimp, don't get him (they love them and you won't have the shrimp for long). This fish has the best personality of any I've taken care of.

I have also had a royal gramma and a maroon clown, but the maroon is a hit or miss with another clown and they can become bullies.
Mine bit my finger when feeding and drew blood!! The royal gramma looked sweet though, IMO!

should have said, not mix two types of clown but switch to blacks or anyone species.

thanks for the responses.

alright...alright...another question. if i stuck with two clowns, cleaner and pep shrimp...what would you add? why type of goby, wrasse, cardinal?

im searching for a pic of that anthias john! can it be added to my tank of is it something that flies solo?
