Best flow pattern

I'm setting up a marineland wide body 300 and am presently debating how to set up the internal circulation. On my 210 I've got a closed loop with a hammerhead pump comming out of a manifold and also have a tunze wavebox. I know the best flow pattern is down the back,across the bottom from back to front, up the front glass and then across the top from front to back and to the overflows. I've been debating on whether to use internal tunze's or vorteck units but I still don't like the sight of the unit's in the tank but will give in if I can get better flow pattern.

I was planning on using the hanmmerhead and returning it through 5 1" sea swirls with the 3 on the back side of the tank outputting on the sandbed outputting toward the front of the tank and the other two in the front flowing back across the top.

Anyone else have a better idea???

Hey Sammie,

Are you going to modify your overflows? If not, you will probably experience issues with the water rising up to the cross braces. They will become visable and impede good surface skimming. I dropped in two 6105s last month in addition to my original 6100s. I placed two pumps on the left and two on the right side of the tank. I set my 7095 controller to sequential mode and it seems to be working well.

I'll probably remove 2 out of 3 of the teeth on the overflow and put something like gutter guard in behind it. I think I'm going to make both holes in the overflows drains using one highr than the other for safety. Probably going to drill the tank about 2/3 of the way down and about 1/3 of the was in from the sides for 2 drains to feed the hammerhead unless I can find a good deal on some tunze;s or vortex's

Or use a return pump that doesn't exceed the GPH of the returns.

As for flow on my 300DD I currently have 2 Vortechs, 1 on each end in reef crest mode with the slave in anti-synch mode. All my current corals seem fine in their current locations. So I guess my flow is okay.
