Best LFS to buy live rock

Hello,

I need to purchase some live rock for my new tank and I was wondering if any of you would recommend some fish stores in dade and broward that supply nice live rock for a good price.

Thanks :fish1:

If your looking for cheap rocks that are cured, go to Reef Life Inc. I went today and got about 10lbs of tonga rocks for about 30 bucks. Well worth it IMO. Not only do they have tonga, but there are a few more. They are going to move to a new location, so everything is on sale... or rather most of it.

$3/lb for LR, any type

I am going to check it out tomorrow, but I really would like to buy some good size base rocks because the water make a BIG different in weight.

What do you mean by the water makes a big difference in weight? As in more rocks will weigh less then the water or as in less water in the tank?

I was thinking that all of those rocks in 1 area... make me scared of what might/can happen. Should I be concerned???

Oh, I meant base rocks will weigh less verse LR because of the water in the LR. Most places sell dry base rocks and they are all rocks/aragonite on the scale.

And don't worry about all those rocks in your tank....unless drop a huge piece in your tank. :) The only thing I would of done was put some kind of board or eggcrate on the bottom when I first started, then the bottom of the tank won't have any 'pressure point.'

I dont think I would go with the eggcrate on the bottom. Only because you would get a lot of dead spots with the live sand....but thats only me

Dead spots as in this would be a problem with the pods, bugs, etc having a tough time getting around? If so, yes you are correct!

As for base rock, I think Reef Life had a few pieces that I saw on the floor. Fish collection had a few pieces too the last time I went to buy some base rocks. Its wonderful how much 20lbs of base/live rock can do to a tank. Plus it makes me a happy camper. :)

Yeah, I picked up 13 lbs of base rock the last time I went to The Fish Collection. I was putting them onto the scale and he came to and told me he had some with more shape. They were very nice for the price...I took them all. :)

I passed by Coral Reef Aqautics yesterday and they had a bunch of Jap. Rock and Tonga that was finally cured. Some good sized rock too.
They are on 12733 S.Dixie Highway(US1). 305-254-7475

I bought an 11lb piece and went home... got to work. Now its 4 nice size pieces in my display tank awaiting growth on it. Not to mention, lots of rubble for the sump/refugium. :P

I've got to fill my new 375 and I'm going to need alot of large pieces. Has anyone seen any for a good price. Exlcuding Reef Life.

You know, you might talk to Pat about making a group buy, if it's like a couple hundred pounds... It may not save money but it'd get you fresh stuff with lots of life and you'd have alot more to choose from when it came in. (not that his stuff doesn't, he has the nicest stuff around) You just might have to wait till he moves, I wouldn't order any more if it were me till I moved.

I know somebody in California that sells Fiji LR for $ 1.50 lb, if you get 4 or more boxes, $ 1.40 for 8 or more, but then you have airfreight and security surcharge on top of that.

But there is also a guy in the Keys with a LR lease, not sure of his prices and how he sells it.
