Best Magnetic Glass Cleaner?

MeuserReef

Welcome to the next level
I have had issues with previous tanks where my magnetic algea scraper actually created fine scratches in my glass. This is unacceptable on my new tank so Im willing to look at the "top of the line" magnetic algae scrapers. I have even considered getting one made for acrylic tanks just as an extra precaution against micro scratches.

What should I get? (my old "scratcher" was a standard MagFloat, so please suggest something else :D ). My glass is 3/8" thick.

Thanks

I use the ALGAE FREE magnet cleaners.

However, as someone else mentioned, many times its operator error.
IE- Not making sure there isnt sand stuck in the magnet before you start cleaning.
As strong as those magnets are, a grain of gravel/sand stuck between it and the glass will cause scratching.

They shouldn't scratch the glass unless you have some sand stuck in between the magnets. So no matter which 1 you have if there is sand in there it could scratch the glass.

MagFloats are the worst!!! I use a mighty magnet and love it. They work great.

Kim,

Which model do you have? I looked at their website and I like the F-1 (1/4"-5/8").

I think that the scratches that I have gotten in the past with the MagFloats were caused by coralline algae, not sand.

Which brand has the thinnest inside dimensions for getting into tight spots? My 180 has 1/2 inch glass. Some pipes are too close to let my MagFloat in.

Also, I plan make a DIY cleaner with neodymium magnets and casting resin. What should I use for the cleaning surface?

The AlgaeFree are thinner than the Magfloats (just the inside part). I don't know how the rest compare.
