Best nano cube kit

Hi nano cubers

I want to start a nano cube, preferably 29+ gallons now since I had to sell my old tank when I moved. I see that we have a lot of nano cube kits in the market and wanted your opinions as to which is good. I have noticed that the advertised volume of the tank doesn't actually match how much water you can put in it in the display area. Doesn't really matter to me as long as it is wide enough and quite long. Also some manufacturer say the width is 19 inches or so but the rear chamber takes 5-6 inches out of it. Please let me know what you have noticed in any nano system you are using.

Aslo is anyone using MH in their closed lid nano? Does it get real hot if you use 150 w MH in a 24 - 29 gallon? 10 degree higher than ambient temp?

I like the new 28 gallon jbj with the built in wavemaker and skimmer but it will probably cost an arm and a leg. Also they made it taller instead of making it longer or wider. Trying to keep the manufacturing cost down, I guess making it like their 24 gallon but they didn't think about us which is sad. I will probably still buy it or make my own. I can do the canopy but don't have idea where to get a cube glass tank.

Thanks for the help guys n gals. I hope to join the club soon.

If your going to build your own from a ready made glass tank...a 30 gallon Oceanic Cube is as good as it gets. Your next option is to get one of Nanocustoms.com's ready to go tanks. I have one of theirs now and the workmanship is outstanding.

Next tank I get will be custom made, 24 inches wide...that IMHO gives you the most options as far as lights go.

Thanks a lot mark. You have been very helpful. This solves the overflow problem. Now if only u could tell me who is most likely to make a hole in the tank for me. I'll do my math and I'll probably do my own setup.

You can use a dremel or buy a hole saw for glass. But for a one time deal...any good glass shop can drill it for you or ask if the store your are buying the tank from can have it drilled for you.

Too bad your not local, I have a new/never used 30 gallon Oceanic I would almost give away.

Good luck...post lots of pic for us all too drool over.

Mark

Hey does anyone want to share the pro and cons of the skimmer they are using for a big nano. I have tried red sea prizm skimmer n beieve they are so-so. I have used the classic berlin for my 100 gal before and never thought it produce enough gunk.
