Best On-Line DSLR Vendors are...

There are a lot of sleazy resellers in the camera business. B&H will have very close to the lowest legit price that you can find online. I never even bother to look anywhere else anymore.

If you do pick someone else, make sure that you check with http://resellerratings.com first.

B&H are usually the best and a real stand up operation. I have found Amazon to be competitive too though, and of course they are reputable. You can't go wrong with either of these two.

Figure if you are looking online, you don't need/want the advice of a retailer, or gracious return policies, etc....so:

Cameta Camera on eBay is often my first choice for "refurb" equipment. You have to be willing to figure out a price and then stick with it, don't let other people bid you up - let it go and wait for the next auction. Check past auctions to get a feel for the "right" price. I buy non-auction items from them as well, but for those, they really aren't any different than B&H, etc.

I have to second this, B&H will be one of the best retailers out there. Amazon is right up there with them though as long as you're buying from Amazon.com themselves and not simply using them as a middle man. Adorama, Beach Camera, and Canoga Camera all get awesome reviews as well. I've bought from all except Canoga :).

B&H and Adorama for me. I live about 2 miles from Cameta, and still go to the two NYC shops for better prices. Particularly when they are offering free shipping, it makes the decision a no-brainer. I know it's bad ettiquette, but I sometimes go into Cameta to figure out what I want, then go online and order it from B&H for the better price. I've often asked them to match B&H's prices, and they won't budge.

A funny story, I am from NY (long Island). So here I am thousands of miles away in the Canadian Rockies taking pictures of Mt Rundell at sunset. Some other photog arrives and we start chatting. He's from God only knows where and when he finds out I am from NY he is all over me about B&H. Here I was thinking it was little Jewel of NY that no one new about. Uh, wrong, it is known probably worldwide. There prices are so good that about 10+ years ago I wanted something and had an in with a person selling gear where I could get Wholesale prices. Her wholesale prices were more than B&H's retail!! It blew both of our minds. They do literally millions of dollars of business, a day ,on the Weekend.

+1 for B&H. They're a great company. I'd also use Amazon - though be sure that the item you're interested in is "sold and shipped by Amazon.com", otherwise you're not actually purchasing from Amazon.

I'd go with B&H on such an expensive purchase though.
