best overflow box?

The "boxes" for the LifeReef's are deeper then on the Eshopps ones, which provides better flow. In addition they are built better (( I have both )). If I had to do it all over again I would have bought enough LifeReef inside of the Eshopps -- I had to modify the U-tube, since the baffle in the back wasn't high enough and it lost siphon each time I stopped the main pump.

seems like the lifereef is the way to go. I just wonder how their overflows are different to keep the siphon compared to others. wouldn't painting the top of the u-tube prevent algae as well?

more information about my tank is it's a 125g and it's a hand-me-down. my sister got it for free and now it will be mine. I just don't want to make the mistake of trying to drill it and find out it's either tempered or be unsuccessful with the drilling. there is no brand name on the tank either to find out if it is tempered.

the pump that I have is rated for 1057gph. the overflow box would have to be within that range as well. would the lifereef one be too much flow for my pump to handle? if i were to upgrade in the future I will definitely be getting a pre-drilled.
