so now that the tank is up and running im starting to put together a list of corals that will go into the tank. I have always been the kind of person to get one or two larger colonies and then a lot of little frags. i like to see how each individual does in my system and my favorite thing is to watch it grow from nothing to something:). Anyone know a good lfs for this or if there are local reefers that frag often. I have the 2 250watt reeflux bulbs with 2 koralia 4's and a reef octopus skimmer in my 75 if anyone has good ideas for some interesting corals. Im not an acan guy and only sps if its pink because of the miss or blue because of my taste. Price not an awful issue thanks to promotions at work but still would like to stay on the cheaper end because gf wants to help buy a few apparently :).

Gleen (g sellers) has some nice stuff. I have a few nice SPS frags that grew out and his tank is awesome! Good seller and supporter of the reef.

2 stores that i stop by every time i come to orlando are seainthecity and world wide corals. both have really really nice frags. i would stop by those 2 stores and check them out if you haven't already. those are 2 top notch stores.

If your tank is just setup and new I'd wait a few for any SPS frags for things to equalize in the tank.

Some beginner SPS (to make sure everything is right and to have pretty corals but on the cheaper end) to look for would be any Montis (caps, digitatas, encrusting) or some Milleporas - the fuzzy looking stick things. They grow out pretty fast too so they'd be great to get as frags and most LFS usually have some form or another of these in stock. Once you're comfortable since I know you got your lighting setup going now and everything looks good I'd graduate to those colonies and more pricey (read as colorful?) corals :)

Hope this helps - and I always try to support our LFS especially now with the slow economy they need our help - no offense to anyone whos pruning of course. I find I'm trying to do the same with any local vendor. Only wish there was a market like a whole foods store on my end of town!

i love whole foods ;), ya i think the first nicer coral i gotta have is the duncan i believe its called. I think that may be my favorite piece of all time :)

duncans are pretty hardy......the don't much care about current or lighting.....they are easy to feed....and can take less than perfect tank parameters

I'm sure most LFS have them but I was just in Aquaria Studio today and they had the motherload shipment of duncans and Aussie acans. Prices were good too.

nice his bil across town had some at 40 a head had a MASSIVE colony for 400 that was more than worth the money but I have to wait a bit for the tank to mature
