I have been salient brand loyal for decades but I don't think my salient kit has the resolution I want now. Kit is almost done and I am looking fo suggestions for my next kit. Needs to be economical, reliable, accurate and not overly complicated to use. I see Hana checkers, both lo and high range, up for sale used all the time and it makes me wonder why people are always selling them...

I use the Hanna Ultra Low and it seems very accurate. It's not the easiest but once you get use to the procedure, it's not bad.

I like the Hanna ULR. You can get the reagent for $9 on saltwater aquarium or BRS. Saltwater aquarium gives you 5% of if you order two or more refills.

I use the Hanna phosphorous checker that measures in ppb easy to use and the most accurate out of all the Hanna phosphate checkers, the only other step you have to do is convert the reading to ppm and you get your result. Phosphorus-to-Phosphate-Conversion-Table-FINAL.jpg

I quite like the Elos Expert LIne High Resolution test kit:

10 drops and one spoon of powder. Shake it up then compare to chart. The most annoying part for me is using the 5ml syringe to fill up two 20 ml tubes. But thats just because I'm too lazy to find a 20ml syringe :p

I will say, I've never been able to get a reading higher than the second color dot but that says more about my inability to raise my phosphates I suppose.

I have been using the Salifert and just switched to the Red Sea Algae Pro test kit and all I can say is why the heck did I wait so long to switch!!! The Red Sea is so easy to interpret!

My wife is getting me a ULR for Christmas.
Slip a stocking under the fireplace and mentioned the alkalinity checker is good too :)
But yeah the ULR Phosphorus works pretty damn good. I wish Hanna had a Nitrate tester as reading Nitrate test kits can be hard. N03 gets around 5 or 10 and I start scratching my head [emoji848]

I’m pretty happy with salifert all kit. If I have made an adjustment to something, I can check all in about a minute each day on my way out the door to work for a week

Are you talking about Apex Fusion? If so yes you just type in your reading and it will tell you what the results are from ppb-ppm

So I run through the whole thing and I get a reading of 0.07, I put that in fusion and it calculated .2ppm. My salient kit would read between 0.0 and .3 so I guess that seems consistent. I understand that it is crucial to keep the vile clean clean clean and there is no debris in the water sample but how important is it to get all the powder out of the little pouch?

I'd do my best to get as much out as I can. With fine powder it's hard to do so. If it's close to or similar to the salifer test then that's good for me. Remember every test kit has a margin of error.

Well, I kinda like it and I kinda don’t. I really don’t like dispensing from the packets. there has to be a better way. It is nice that the reagent is from a fresh pack every time, and that is superior to the bottle and scoop method but I question if I get it all out.

I am thrilled to never have to squint at subtle shades of blue anymore, the digital readout is awesome.

I really really don’t like, and this may be the deal breaker, that you the readout shuts off after 2 minutes and there doesn’t seem to be a way to recover that reading if you miss that 2 minute window. It’s about 50 cents and a 9 minute process lost if you miss a 2 minute window. There should be a beep. I’d pay another $7 for the unit if it had a beep
