I'm looking for the smallest, most powerfull powerhead for a nano. Eg, 120-200 GPH. but the footprint has to be small. I bought an Eheim aquaball, but that thing's huge relative to my tank size, and doesn't really put out all that much water.
I use Maxijets, they run cooler than most powerheads and you can go with the 900 without the crazy wattage costs.
Though I have to say that my older models run better(?) than the new ones. My other tanks have the Maxijets from up to 6 years ago and they don't jam up like the ones I've bought in the last 2 years. JMO
I only have experience with my rios (model 50). While they have been sufficent I have heard bad things about them. I will soon be switching to maxi-jets.
I've been reading a lot about people placing maxi jets in their nano tanks. I've got a jbj 12dx and was thinking about doing this to my tank. do you simply replace the stock pump with the maxi jet or....?
Snarkes - Yes you can directly swap a Maxijet 900 or 1200 for the stock pump. I am using the 900 in my 12g Aquapod. Getting ready to put a Hydor FLO on it too.
