Best practices to install uv sterilizer

Hi guys

I'm wondering which method would be the best with regards to installing a uv sterilizer.

Should I connect it directly to the hose coming from my return pump and then the outlet directly to my return pipe back into my tank? The sterilizer will be mounted in my sump cabinet

Or

Have its own pump and running from the sump to the uv sterilizer inlet and then the outlet going back into the sump?

Because you really need to be able to control the amount of flow into the UV for optimal function, I personally think you really want it to operate on its own pump.
Make sure you know what flow rate your uv can handle and what the best rate is to achieve your goals.

I take it off the return pump with two isolation valves and a bypass valve. The valves can be adjusted to regulate the flow. I also have a flow meter on it.

I have tried it setup a couple of different ways. But I have found that I prefer to have a separate pump for the UV.
